The Click Is Disappearing: How Surf Savvy Is Making Brands the Most Visible Name in AI Search Results
Vancouver, Canada - August 5, 2026 / Surf Savvy Marketing Services /
A wave of new industry research confirms what many brands are only starting to feel: the click is disappearing. Nearly 60% of Google searches now end without a click to any website, according to Similarweb's 2025 analysis, and Google's AI Overviews now appear on roughly half of all searches. When an AI Overview is present, organic click-through rates fall by as much as 58%, per research from Ahrefs. Surf Savvy, a Vancouver-based SEO and AI search consultancy, says the answer is not to fight that shift but to be built into it, and its Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) service is designed to do exactly that.
The problem is structural. For two decades, search visibility meant ranking on the first page of Google. That no longer guarantees a brand is seen, because a growing share of answers are now written by AI systems like ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Perplexity, which summarize the web and cite only a handful of sources. If a brand is not one of those sources, it is effectively invisible at the moment a buyer is deciding. Roughly half of consumers used AI while shopping in 2025, and among Gen Z AI users, 74% reach for an AI assistant when researching products.
The upside is just as measurable. A 2025 Seer Interactive study of more than 25 million impressions found that brands cited inside AI Overviews earn 35% more organic clicks and 91% more paid clicks than brands left out entirely. Visibility is consolidating around the few sources AI trusts, and the gap between cited and uncited brands is widening fast.
Surf Savvy's GEO service is built to close that gap. The offering combines AI seeding, large language model (LLM) research, technical SEO, and structured content strategy to position a brand inside the answers AI platforms generate, not just the links beneath them. Rather than optimizing only for rankings, Surf Savvy optimizes for citation, mention, and recommendation across the platforms buyers actually use.
“Ranking number one means a little less every month. What matters now is being the source the AI quotes,” said Matthew Coenen, founder of Surf Savvy. “We've taken clients from invisible in AI answers to the single most visible name in their field. That is the whole game now, and most brands don't yet realize the window to claim that position is still open.”
The GEO service includes AI visibility audits, content structured for machine readability, entity and authority building, and ongoing measurement of how and where a brand appears across AI platforms. It complements Surf Savvy's existing work in technical SEO, content strategy, paid advertising, and analytics, giving clients a single connected strategy across traditional and AI-driven discovery.
