A dual exhibition pairs high-contrast portraits of Andalusian ritual with five decades of photographing Mexican fiesta and Day of the Dead traditions.
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Leica Gallery Los Angeles is pleased to announce a dual exhibition featuring Lena Herzog: Sol y Sombra and Geoff Winningham: A Trail of Marvels, opening on November 5th and on view through December 7, 2026.
Sol y Sombra, Spanish for "sun and shadow," a term traditionally used to describe the sun-lit and shaded seating sections of a Spanish bullring, presents a body of high-contrast black-and-white photographs by multidisciplinary artist Lena Herzog, made in Seville. The images, of dancers, bullfighters, and penitents, favor stark blacks and blown-out whites over gray, rendering each figure as a bold, vivid silhouette.
Alongside Herzog's work, A Trail of Marvels draws on Geoff Winningham's decades of photographing Mexican fiestas, beginning with his 1997 book In the Eye of the Sun: Mexican Fiestas , for which Nobel Prize-winning author J.M.G. Le Clézio contributed an essay and writer Richard Rodriguez wrote the introduction.
The exhibition coincides with Winningham's recent book A Trail of Marvels: A Memoir of Mexico and Days of the Dead (2024), which gives the show its title.
Leica Gallery Los Angeles will also host an opening reception on Thursday, November 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, inviting guests to experience both exhibitions in person.
In addition, as part of the exhibition program, Leica Gallery Los Angeles will host a Book Signing on Sunday, November 8th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
This exhibition reflects Leica Gallery Los Angeles's ongoing commitment to celebrating the art of visual storytelling and connecting exceptional photographers with audiences, collectors, and the broader photographic community.
Exhibition Hours:
Leica Gallery Los Angeles is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
