Joe A. Putnam explores Christianity, biblical history, near-death experiences and arguments about the existence of God

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Questions about the existence of God, the reliability of biblical accounts and the possibility of life after death are at the center of "Hey God…Are You Still There?", a nonfiction book by retired U.S. Army officer and combat veteran Joe A. Putnam.

Through science, history, biblical interpretation, and reported supernatural phenomena, the book explores longstanding questions about religion and philosophy. Focusing primarily on Christianity and the Bible, Colonel Putnam considers arguments from religious believers, atheists and agnostics on topics ranging from near-death experiences and guardian angels to intelligent design, the origins of life and the empty tomb of Jesus.

"Even if you don't agree with the conclusions herein, I hope it makes you think," Putnam writes in the foreword.

Colonel Putnam also examines the relationship between politics and religion, the beliefs of different faith traditions and the role of historical accounts in shaping religious understanding. He draws on his interpretations of scientific and historical material to consider arguments about the existence of God and the origins of the universe.

The book is intended for readers interested in examining questions about religious belief, faith, science and the afterlife. The author presents his own conclusions while inviting readers to consider the questions and arguments discussed throughout the book.
